Coppernose Bluegill

Bluegill are one of the most popular and widely distributed game fish in North America. The Bluegill population in a pond also supports the predator species and other sport fish, like the Largemouth Bass and Hybrid Striped Bass. Bluegill support "harvest ready" Largemouth Bass in your pond. Bluegill have a firm white flesh and are great eating. Bluegill are a great sport fish with plenty of fight when caught on a hook and line. They train easily to feed and production can be greatly enhanced by feeding and fertilizing.

Bluegill are typically stocked with Redear (shellcracker) at a 80 to 20 percent ratio. Stocking rates vary but typically stocking is 1000/acre of this 80/20 mix. Spawning occurs throughout the warmer months when water temperatures are above 75 F.
