Redear Sunfish

Redear Sunfish are also known as Shellcracker and Chinquapin. Redear are excellent table fare and are good fighters on hook and line. Their reproduction is strong and make a good forage fish for largemouth bass. Typical stocking is with Bluegill, with the Redear making up about 20% of the stocking rate. ie 1,000 Bluegill and Redear per acre would be 800 Bluegill and 200 Redear. Redear or Shellcracker as the name implies tend to keep any snail population in check in many ponds.
