Contracting & Shipping

Contracting Information

We at Southland Fisheries Corporation are vitally interested in continuing the growth of our business by selling quality products worldwide.  We want to make sure any buyer understands what he is purchasing when he works with us. Satisfied buyers will only bring us greater business and opportunity.  Therefore, we want to do everything possible to ensure that any buyer gets what he expects and that we do everything necessary for that buyer to become a satisfied customer and willing to work with us again.

In order for Southland Fisheries Corporation to efficiently produce commercial quantities of fry and fingerlings and offer them at wholesale prices, we must be able to contract with the buyer.  To do so protects both Southland and the buyer and clearly states the requirements of each party.

We set up contracts with previous buyers during November and December of each year.  Our contracts are simple but outline the requirements and responsibilities of both Buyer and Seller.  All contracts require a 20-30% deposit (depending on volume ordered) to reserve a minimum number of fish from Southland Fisheries production. In the event that Southland is unable to deliver the number of fish reserved by the contract within a reasonable time frame, we will refund the pro rata amount of the deposit corresponding to the number of fish not delivered. If the Buyer is unable to accept contracted fish, Buyer will forfeit the deposit.  The deposit is due upon execution of a contract.  When multiple shipments are involved the deposit will be applied to payment of the last shipment(s). Our need and preference is to have contracts written and signed by new clients no later than December 15, or 6 months prior to availability.  We will do our best to accommodate new clients that contract for fish after December 15. Production of these fish requires prior planning especially when large volumes are desired.

Once a buyer determines that he wants to work with us, a contract will be forwarded to him for his consideration.  Together we will make the terms of the contract meet our mutual needs.

All freight charges are borne by the buyer.

Shipping Information
Box Size:
1. 10 kg for fry (38 cm x 30 cm x 45 cm)
2. 13 kg for fingerlings (40 cm x 30 cm x 60 cm)

Quantity Per Box:
1. Our 10 kg fry box is typically packed with 30-40,000 fry each. Densities are based to fry species and duration of transportation.
2. Our 13 kg box is generally used for fingerling and is packed at 700-1300 per piece when fish are 3-4 cm in length.  This packaging typically includes a 1-kg-jell-ice pack as well as cooled water with additives to protect fish and water quality in transit.

Shipping Logistics:
We use UPS and Fed Ex as our primary carriers. UPS is our most frequently used air freight company for two reasons: 1) reliability  2) short transit durations. Freight is put into the carriers hands at about 7:00 p.m. local time after about 2 hours of packing work. The air carriers move the freight rapidly to their international hubs for transfer to plans going to worldwide destinations.
